Koolatron Mini Fridge Design Style and Power Options
It’s stylishly designed and would fit in very well for someone who loves 1960’s kitsch items and is a great conversation piece. This compact refrigerator does not come with a freezer section as it’s main function in life is to work as a drink’s can dispenser – however, that’s not to say you can’t use it for small food items. Other uses for this retro mini-fridge include the office, boat, RV, or a games room.
However, we would not advise that you use this retro Cola-Cola vending fridge as a day to day standard fridge. If you want a compact refrigerator with more advanced functionality then please check the Haier compact refrigerator review elsewhere on our website.
It comes with a 12-volt power cord so can be easily powered using a car cigarette lighter and will hold up to six standard sized Coke or soda cans with ease. Alternatively you can power this Koolatron vending fridge using a 12v DC or 110 AC adapter and plug it straight into the mains in your house – it really is that adaptable and comes highly recommended.
Cooling Drinks with the Koolatron KWC-4 Compact Refrigerator
Everyone likes a cold and refreshing can of soda from time to time, and that’s where the Koolatron KWC-4 comes into its own. It will chill your drinks (or food) to 32 degrees F below the ambient room temperature – and this done using a modern art thermoelectric module.
There’s no chance of this retro fridge over-heating also because the external heat is reduced with a small motorized fan in the back of the unit.
We completed a few simple tests on the Koolatron vending fridge to see how the promise on temperature actually stacks up in real life – and this is what we found. We first measured the temperature on a cool day using a digital thermometer – and the refrigerator was 30 to 40 degrees cooler inside the fridge than the outside was.
On hotter days the temperature was closer to freezing point – but not enough to make the drinks ice up – but enough to make your teeth chatter. That to us makes this an awesome personal soda vending machine and is why it rates so highly. So why do we not give this retro can fridge the full marks? Read on and we’ll tell you why.
Negative Points to the Koolatron KWC-4 Review
The reason we don’t give this mini fridge the full five stars is because some of the manufacturing components could be better. Of particular note is the door handle and latch mechanism. It’s made from plastic and although it didn’t break during our review period, it was our view that over time it could not last if exposed to sustained and heavy use.
This is compounded by the fact that when a person opens the door on the Koolatron for the first time, it’s not immediate obvious which way the handle should go – do you pull or turn? We imagine that this could eventually break if different people were opening the door who were not familiar with its mechanism.
Koolatron Coca-Cola Fridge Review – Conclusion
It rates 3.5 stars out of 5, which for a novelty refrigerator isn’t a bad score. The temperature keeps at the correct cooling levels to keep cans of Coke cold, and it does look very cool if you like retro design. As we said though, we are not entirely convinced by the durability of the product, and honestly believe that you might get three years use out of this mini fridge at a maximum before some parts start to get faulty.
However, considering the cheap price of this Koolatron product it does deliver on what it promises to do – which is ultimately give you a small storage solution with a funky design for your soda cans.
